Be Careful Of Bullies When Meeting People Online
When you first get online, it may be hard for you to jump into message boards and chat rooms. Meeting people online can be daunting, especially when you run into the bottom of the barrel when you first try a chat room. I know that my first experience online was horrible and it might have turned me off to meeting people online altogether if I had let it. You have to remember that there are real people behind each screen name you find. Some of those people have major issues that really don’t have anything to do with you personally. You just happen to be there to catch the brunt of it.
I really didn’t set out a first to go meeting people online, but I did want to find some people to take to casually about something I was interested in. I decided to try a chat room, thinking it might be harmless and a way to get new information. I went into the room and barely said hello before someone was attacking me. It was the most insane thing I had ever seen and I had no idea why it was happening. This made me think meeting people online was going to be a waste of time. I didn’t go back into a chat room for a long time.
Today, I realize that I just went to the wrong place. I also know now that there are many on the Internet who do nothing but try to mess with people and give them a hard time. Some are rather good at it too. You can let them scare you away from meeting people online and don’t let them make you feel bad about yourself. It may take a while to build up your online armor, but you will learn the difference between meeting people online that want to converse with others and those who wish to bolster their low self-esteem by making others feel bad.
If you want to go about meeting people online who share the same interests as you, you should do a search for message boards that have like minded people on them. I’m not saying you aren’t going to find someone you don’t like, but you are likely to hook up with people who like the same things you do. Don’t let one idiot spoil your fun when you are meeting people online.
