Big People Need To Know How To Make Friends
When my daughter started kindergarten, I wasn’t worried about how she’d make friends. Children, at least at a young age, take to each other incredibly quickly. In fact, their best friend will change every week. I didn’t need to explain to her how to make friends, she already had that perfected.
When you graduate from high school or college, it becomes a bit more difficult to find new friendships. Perhaps your friends are all getting married, having children, moving away and you find yourself feeling a bit left out. Or, maybe you’re the one who is married and having children and you’re wanting to make friends that are more on your new level of life. It isn’t easy to figure out how to make friends when life is so chaotic at times. You might be lucky enough to make friends with your child’s friend’s parents. Even still, it isn’t easy to walk up to someone and introduce yourself and ask them to be your friend. That just isn’t the way that it works. Figuring out how to make friends when life continues to move forward simply isn’t easy.
There are lots of different ways that you can engage in when trying to figure out how to make friends. If you do have children, getting involved in a play group that allows your children to become friends with other children might help you to meet some parents who are in the same situation that you are. Believe it or not, there are many people in this world who are just as clueless as to how to make friends. Suggesting to other parents that you’d like to set up a play date with their children also allows you, as a parent, to get to know the other parent.
Single or married people, can find ways to make friends by getting involved with their community or various clubs. If you have the time and the energy, volunteering in your community is a wonderful way to discover how to make friends. You not only will meet others that are also volunteering, but some wonderful people who you may be helping along the way. Various clubs exist for people of similar interests to get together every so often. They aren’t always easy to find but they do exist. There is always someone who might know of some clubs or activities that you can become involved in. Many people will figure out how to make friends if they are participating in something that others have very similar interests. Once you join a gym, you may find yourself engaging in small talk and pretty soon, working out with a newfound friend at your side.
