Forgotten Information At Used Book Sales
Some of us are out and out book addicts! We collect books like other people drink water. If you are a book addict, you undoubtedly understand the predicament. You never met a book store you didn’t like. If your thirst for knowledge outweighs your pocket book, you’ve probably attended your share of used books sale events. Libraries hold annual or semi-annual used book sale events to clear out their shelves, with the income used to purchase and make room for newer books. There are also used book stores which specialize in, you guessed it, used books sales, for their entire livelihood. In some locales, the used book store turns a better profit than the new book seller.
Whereas the new book seller is interested in selling the latest best seller, used books sale items offer a range of literature you may not find elsewhere. You may find rare first editions, cookbooks featuring high-carb and butter laden recipes you know you still like but cannot find in the current literature. Used books sale events may yield that out of print book you’ve searched high and low to find.
Even if you’re not such a book nerd, a used books sale may turn up a 1950s out of print book on seasonings, written by an unknown author who came from the “old country” and published the secrets of her mother’s cooking. Such a book you may never find again! Think of the innovative meals you might serve your family with her simple secrets, not found in today’s best seller. How can you resist?
There are many subjects you’ll discover in the used books sale event that simply won’t be found in your large chain bookstore. Herbal medicine is a case in point. There have been a great many books written, compiling anecdotal use of plants as healing agents. Valuable and popular at the time of publication but failing to grasp the public eye over the years and eventually going out of print.
The availability of knowledge in a fickle market does not negate the value of the information presented. Thus, a book which presents valid information will not necessarily be a success. Once it’s out of print, you may no longer have access to its secrets, outside of the used books sale event.
If you’re an information freak or just seek information on out of date times and places, the used books sale events are your starting point to a world of knowledge. Once you get started, it can become a riveting and rewarding hobby. You may even get your spouse, children and friends into the act.
